The Society of Automotive Engineers
Founded in 1905, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is the world's largest professional body for people working in the automotive industry. It regroups about 80,000 engineers, business executives, educators and students. It is an international organization with members in more than 97 countries. SAE is involved with schools worldwide with programs such as A World In Motion featuring hands-on activities for high-school students to pique their curiosity in math and science and the Collegiate Design Series, challenging college and university students to build a racecar, an airplane or a walking robot, to name a few. Their student members come from over 350 collegiate chapters in engineering universities and colleges worldwide.
Formula SAE
Formula SAE is a Collegiate Design competition organized by SAE that requires students to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with a small formula style racing car. The vehicule is then judged in the three categories of static inspection and engineering design, solo performance trails and high-performance track endurance.
The challenge involved means that members of FSAE are students who go the extra mile and acquire invaluable working experience in design and fabrication. According to top companies, newly graduated FSAE participants are placed at the same level as engineers with two years of working experience while hiring them. |
